The Telluride region is nestled in the mountains of Colorado. A small mountain village high in the mountains of the southwest region, Telluride has a long history and offers the best of the modern world and the historic region as well. From its National Historic district to its trendy shopping area, Telluride is more than just skiing.
The history of Telluride dates back long ago. While not named until the 1800’s, the valley has been inhabited for much longer beginning with the native Ute Indians who long set up camps here in the summer months. It was not until the 1870’s that mining brought year round European residents to the area and by 1890, there were over 5,000 residents in this booming town. Despite economic downturns, Telluride survived and was resurrected in the 1970’s. The birth of the ski resort quickly led to Telluride’s success as a resort getaway in winter and today, it remains a top destination for travel in winter and other seasons as well.
